An "oblation" is an offering. Specifically, during the worship of the Episcopal Church it refers to the bread and wine that will be used in the Eucharist. The Prayer Book requires that a representative of the congregation bring the bread and wine to the altar on behalf of the whole congregation. The bread and wine represent us, our whole lives. Each week there is an opportunity for one or more person at the service to carry the bread and wine from the back of the church forward to the altar. Sometimes people use this ministry to mark a special occasion, a birthday, anniversary, etc. although anytime is a good time.
